Treat Recipes

You can make your own dog food by mixing 2 cups of uncooked rice, 4 1/2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of oats and 1/2 tsp. salt in a saucepan and bringing to a boil. Add the following to the boiling mixture: 1/4 cup of 2-percent milk, 1 tbsp. of finely chopped parsley, 1 1/2 oz. of finely chopped liver, 4 oz. of ground beef, chicken or lamb, 1 1/2 tbsp. of corn oil, one beaten egg and 1 cup of finely chopped vegetable such as carrots, broccoli or cauliflower. Stir and reduce the temperature to low, simmering until all the water is absorbed, about 20 minutes. Spread flat into a sealable container until cool and cut into squares measuring about 1/4 of a cup.

Add yogurt, cottage cheese or powdered egg shell to your homemade dog food to add some calcium necessary for strong bones and teeth. Just as humans need calcium, dogs do too. You can make a supplemental mix by combining 1/2 cup of brewer's yeast, 1/2 cup of wheat germ and 1/2 tsp. of powdered kelp. Add 1/2 tsp. of this mix to the food at each meal for your Pomeranian.

Homemade Food Benefits

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and prepare to make your own flea-repelling dog treats by greasing cookie sheets. Dissolve 1 1/2 beef bullion cubes into 6 oz. of boiling water and set aside. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of Gluten free Flour Blend , 1/2 cup of cornmeal, 1/3 cup of brewer's yeast and 1 tbsp. of garlic powder. Mix in one egg yolk and the beef bullion water with the dry ingredients until a firm dough forms. Flour the work surface and roll the mixture out into a 1/4-inch thickness. Use small, bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the Pomeranian treats and bake for 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and leave the treats inside to cool and harden overnight. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for use.

Prepackaged dog food often contains chemicals, additives and unnecessary fillers that are not the healthiest option for your Pomeranian. Just as these additions are avoided by many humans, they should be avoided on behalf of your dog. The Pomeranian gets a balanced and varied diet when you make it yourself, as opposed to the same old scoop of dog slop or dry crunchy bits in its bowl. Avoid vitamin deficiencies in your puppy by making the dog food yourself. Recipes with garlic and yeast also help reduce fleas.
